How does a tiny zipper slider bring two rows of teeth together?

The zipper along the two edges of a garment can close with a gentle pull.

这么(zhè me)小(xiǎo)的(de)拉链头(lā liàn tóu),是(shì)怎么(zěn me)做到(zuò dào)的(de)?

How does such a small zipper slider do that?

拉链(lā liàn)两边(liǎng biān)有(yǒu)一排排(yī pái pái)小(xiǎo)齿(chǐ),它们(tā men)不是(bù shì)真(zhēn)的(de)牙齿(yá chǐ)。

There are rows of small teeth on both sides of a zipper; they are not actual teeth.

These small teeth are attached to fabric tapes and can interlock with the teeth on the other side.

The slider is the small part you move by pulling it with your hand.

Inside it is a channel shaped like the letter Y.

This channel is like small paths through which the zipper teeth can pass.

When the zipper closes, the teeth on the two sides enter along two separate paths.

它们(tā men)经过(jīng guò)拉链(lā liàn)头(tóu),在(zài)里面(lǐ miàn)靠近(kào jìn),最后(zuì hòu)扣(kòu)在(zài)一起(yī qǐ)。

As they pass through the slider, they come closer together inside and finally interlock.

As the slider keeps moving forward, the two rows of teeth close section by section.

Pulling in the opposite direction makes the channel separate the interlocked teeth into two paths.

When the two rows of teeth separate, the two edges of the garment open too.

So a zipper does not hold the two sides together with glue.

小(xiǎo)齿(chǐ)扣住(kòu zhù)两边(liǎng biān),拉链头(lā liàn tóu)则(zé)让(ràng)它们(tā men)合上(hé shàng)或(huò)分开(fēn kāi)。

The small teeth hold the two sides together, while the slider makes them interlock or separate.
