1. Scope and acceptance

QI Chinese (“QI”) provides the Chinese learning service described in these Terms. By creating an account, accessing, or using QI, you confirm that you have read and agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy.

If you use QI on behalf of an organization or another person, you confirm that you have authority to bind them. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

2. The QI service

QI’s learning service is provided through the QI app for iOS and Android. The app offers Chinese reading and listening content by topic and HSK level (articles, videos, and podcasts), in-article word lookup, saved articles and vocabulary, My articles, Ask QI and Quick Scan, practice, mini games, Chinese character writing, reading statistics, and review and study-suggestion notifications. The QI website provides product information, legal documents, contact details, and account-deletion requests; learning features on the web may be paused.

Features, limits, and supported platforms may change to improve quality, safety, cost, or compliance. The information shown on the QI Pro screen and the Store purchase sheet at the time of purchase governs specific commercial benefits.

3. Age, account, and security

QI is intended for people aged 16 and older. If the law where you live requires a higher age to consent to online services yourself, you may use QI only if you meet that age or have valid permission from a parent or guardian.

You can sign up with email or sign in with Google or Apple. You must provide accurate information, keep your sign-in details confidential, and notify QI promptly if you suspect unauthorized access. Do not sell, transfer, or share your account or use another person’s account.

4. Your content

You retain your rights in the text, links, images, and other content you provide to QI, including in My articles, Ask QI, and Quick Scan, as well as your profile photo and feedback. Only paste, link, or capture content you have the right to use for learning, and respect the privacy, copyright, and other rights of others.

You grant QI a non-exclusive, limited, revocable right to store, copy, transform, and process that content only as needed to provide the features you request, such as translation, annotation, and audio generation. My articles are visible only in your account; QI does not publish them. This right does not transfer ownership to QI and ends when the data is deleted, except where retention is required by law or for dispute resolution.

5. QI content and third-party content

Readings, translations, annotations, audio, and learning materials edited or created by QI belong to QI or its licensors. You may use them for personal learning within your access rights; do not copy, bulk-collect, or redistribute them without appropriate permission.

Some content is based on or references news articles, videos on YouTube or TikTok, and podcasts. The original content belongs to its respective owners; QI only displays, embeds, or links to the original with source information to support learning and does not claim ownership of it. When you watch an embedded video, listen to an embedded podcast, or open the original source, the terms and privacy policy of that platform may apply.

If you are a rights holder and believe content on QI infringes your rights, send a notice through the published contact channel identifying the content, the basis of your rights, and your contact details. QI will review it and may remove, restrict, or edit the content where appropriate.

6. Acceptable use

You may not use QI to break the law or infringe others’ rights; distribute malware; access data without authorization; bypass security, credits, daily reads, or plan limits; overload the service; interfere with, exploit, or reverse engineer systems without authorization; impersonate others, commit fraud, or create unlawful content.

  • Do not add secrets, sensitive data, or other people’s personal data to My articles, Ask QI, or Quick Scan unless you have a lawful basis and the appropriate rights.
  • Do not use links, images, or text to bring infringing, unlawful, harassing, or harmful content into QI.
  • Do not resell, rent, or provide QI access as a separate service without written approval.
  • Do not use automation to exceed technical limits or degrade other users’ experience.

7. AI features and output limits

My articles, Ask QI, and Quick Scan use AI to translate, annotate, and analyze words and phrases; My articles can also generate audio of the text. When you use these features, QI sends the text you select, paste, enter, or confirm after recognition from an image to its AI or voice provider. Each feature has length and content limits shown in the app; QI may decline or limit requests that exceed those limits, present safety risks, or violate these Terms.

AI output, translations, and audio may be wrong, incomplete, or unsuitable. Check them against the original content before relying on the result. QI is a learning tool; it does not provide legal, medical, financial, or other high-risk professional advice and does not guarantee a particular learning outcome.

8. QI Free, QI Pro, and payment

QI offers a limited QI Free plan and a paid QI Pro plan billed monthly or annually. The benefits, price, period, and applicable taxes are shown on the QI Pro screen in the app and on the Store purchase sheet before you confirm. QI does not promise unlimited AI use.

QI Pro is sold only inside the app: through Apple In-App Purchase on iOS and Google Play Billing on Android. The QI website does not sell plans or accept payments. Payment is charged to your Apple ID or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase. The subscription renews automatically for the selected period until you cancel it in the Store’s subscription settings; the deadline for cancelling to avoid the next charge follows the Store’s rules.

QI Pro is activated only after QI verifies the transaction with the Store. You can restore purchases in the app while signed in to the same QI account. Payment methods, receipts, and purchase history are managed by Apple or Google under the terms of the relevant Store.

9. Credits and daily reads

On QI Free, some articles are open to everyone; others are opened with daily reads. The number of daily reads is shown in the app and resets every day at midnight UTC; unused reads do not carry over. An article you open with a daily read remains available to read again later. When you run out, you can preview part of an article or upgrade to QI Pro. While QI Pro is active, you can read articles without using daily reads.

Credits are a shared unit for My articles (translation, annotation, and audio generation) and quick questions in Ask QI and Quick Scan; looking up words in an article does not use credits. For Ask QI, the app shows the credits needed before you confirm; your balance, expiry, and next grant are shown in Personal. Eligible accounts receive a one-time starter amount of credits. QI Pro receives credits for each one-month cycle counted from the purchase date, including on annual plans; each cycle’s credits expire at the end of that monthly cycle and do not roll over.

Credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred, and are not refunded once used. If a request does not complete, the credits held for that request are returned to your balance, except credits from a grant that has already expired. QI may adjust credit amounts, daily reads, and feature limits for future periods; benefits already shown for an active plan period are honored in line with the law and the purchase conditions.

10. Cancellation, expiry, and refunds

Cancel QI Pro renewal in the App Store or Google Play subscription settings. After you cancel, QI Pro continues until the end of the paid period and then returns to QI Free. Deleting the app or your QI account does not automatically cancel a Store-managed subscription.

Because transactions are processed by Apple or Google, refund requests must go to the Store where you purchased and are decided under that Store’s policy and mandatory law. On iOS, you can request a refund from Settings in the QI app or through Apple; on Android, follow Google Play’s refund policy. QI does not issue refunds for Store transactions directly; when a Store confirms a refund, the related QI Pro access may be revoked.

11. Interruption, suspension, and termination

QI may maintain, change, or discontinue parts of the service; it does not guarantee continuous availability and does not publish an SLA for individual users. If a change materially reduces an active paid benefit, QI will take appropriate measures under applicable law and purchase conditions.

QI may restrict, suspend, or terminate access for violations of these Terms, security risks, harmful conduct, legal obligations, or invalid payment. You can stop using QI at any time and delete your account in the app under Personal → Settings → Delete account, or submit a request on the account-deletion page; terms on incurred payments, intellectual property, liability, and disputes continue to apply where appropriate.
